WAVES

Not quite in phase
Some cancelling
Then brief resonances
But never humming in
Unison

PURPLE PEN

I WRITE

I write trash
These words are utter garbage
They are discarded
Disused
No longer fit for purpose
They are unwanted
Nondescript adjectives
Actionless verbs
Nouns without significance
Prefixes and suffixes all in the wrong place
Joining words all in disarray
Complex rubbish without meaning
Broken logic
Decayed sense
Devoid of context
Spelling without magic
Even the obscenities are inoffensive
Every word written here rotting
I compose decomposition
My pen and its tip produce refuse
Do not trust any scrap of text here!
This is communication of entropy
That can only lead to total certain death!

I write to save my life.

ISLANDS

Born to a land
Trees reaching tall
Mighty mountains stand
Ore to forge swords

An assuring script
Unthinkable to leave
Unspeakable to doubt
Warriors remain grounded

Look to the coast
A few brave sails
In the cloak of night
Stow away stow away

Beyond the land
Lies endless sea
Dare to sail
To dream of islands

Young wizard leaves
Across mysterious ocean
To dream of islands
To finally feel free

Here another wide land
Soft and fulsome
Bays awash to receive
Moon upon curved hills

And while the embrace is warm
And the spells deeply charm
It is not quite the fit
Not completely true

Always a haven to return to
The sail is set again

To dream of islands
A free truth to be me
To dream of islands
To sail free.

SOLIDARITY

Chess without pieces
Reality checkmate
Your mind
So corporeal
Stable, sure, powerful
Not in need of sentiment
Tower of wisdom
I pawn in shadow
You define good and evil
Set it as just so
Your genius, my default
Spoken, now real
Now solid
Words of such:
Heart, Love, Unity, Brotherhood
Now miraculously formed
They dominate the board
I yield my pieces
Play to lose
Majesty of knowledge
Basic aspects defined
Syllogisms carved
You are right you are right you are right
You manifest
I subordinate
Your next move announces
The Word, the Light, it was Good:
Solidarity
We all agree it’s a Good Word
You wield it
Righteous over the board
I taste concrete
Until one day
I stray off the board
Into the undefined, the unwise
I can’t help but refuse your hardness
I let myself be myself, unfixed
That’s who I really am
But your solidarity I feel
Transcendent justice
So intellectually firm
It comes upon me
As a bludgeon
I, abominable narrative
I, incorrect
Fluid, gaseous, plasma
You flex your grand solidarity
Ground me back to the board
You elucidate of brotherhood
As you destroy, admonish
Expecting worship in return
Your mighty brilliant mind
Solidly right over me
In shadow
I would cower in terror
But no more
You cannot defeat
What isn’t on the board
I am dumb and small
And I’m saying
Goodbye.

GHOST

Delicate small hand
Held to provide safety
Flee the beast

Hands opened
Moment come and gone
Tingling lingers

Sweetest trust
But never anything more
Buried hope

Waves of season
Waved finally, long ago
Wave to nostalgia

Ache of chest
Memory of memory
Sweetest haunt

ART

Artful yet genuine
Artifice yet vital
Artificial yet official
Articulate yet relatable
Artistic yet grounded
Art yet all against it

PARK

Reflections on your eyes
Leaves
Birds
Sky
Earth
Iris locks iris
Nature stirs nature

Your tender words
Cause air in my lungs
To want to push out
To voice across my lips
A delicate
Yes

Then nature is yoked
Your eyes gently lower
Tenderly saying
No

CANYON

My people don’t say canyon
Instead, say gorge, with letters few
So I’m here with you now
Looking upon an incredible view

I have something to say
But I don’t want to carry on and on
So I will use your words instead:
I think you are so very canyon

CONFESSION

I admit
To looking up high
To the towering clouds
I admit
To feeling inexplicable
To a well chosen note
I admit
To adoring you as you
To answer your adoration
I admit
To dream of lofty peace
To a future beyond the dawn
I admit
To letting me grow
To finally be myself

A QUESTION

I would
Love to
Know how
You love
To be
Loved whole
And then
Love you
With all
My whole
Beating
Heart

A BOMB

For years I’ve been unravelling a mystery
Mysterious steps that have lead me right here
Where in front of me is a bomb
Exploder about to go off
Stopping it is my raging thought
Thinking from the clues I’ve found
Discovered that there are two screws to turn
Rotate a correct amount of times
Timer rapidly approaching zero
Nothing left but to decide which two of three wires to cut
Sever the power to diffuse
Disarm the weapon
Detonator to go off any minute
Clock ticks as the sweat pours off me
I am trying to remember how this terror was made
Constructed some time in the 80s, deadly conditioning
Made to be as lethal as possible
Probabilities in my memory
Recall what am I seeking?
Searching for a sign
Indication leaps forward to me between heart beats
Blowing me away with realisation
Revealed to me what am I looking at?
That the bomb is me.
I am built to explode without me knowing it
This can happen any second
Ticking time I cut the wires
Connection one connection two
Pair of seconds later and it would have been all over
Leaping ahead now I deprogram me
Myself disarmed I am clear
Demystified.
